Clive Cussler makes a cameo appearance in the novel as himself, rescuing Pitt and the others from the sea in his catamaran, and then helping them in infiltrating the mercenaries’ island and rescuing the hijacked research ship.

Unless you have the dark-haired blue-eyed hero meet the green-eyed woman vslhalla his dreams who turns out to be a lesbian and forces him to submit to a painless heros feel no pain sex-change so they can marry in California and become eco-terrorists who tandemly blow up the offices of NUMA saving the lovable sidekick for an eventual three-way.
Cuxsler story was decent, but his characters were so nauseatingly cliched that it was an effort to keep reading. The climax scene, depicting a planned terror attack in Vvalhalla, near the World trade centre, by ramming a transport craft, is eerily similar to the attackswhich occurred soon after the novel was written.

Somewhere along the way, however, my interest began to lag, and by the end I’d been skimming for awhile. Do i need to read the other books in the series before i read this one? It was just too much, and it grew more unlikely with every time.

I rarely give up on a rrising, but after a certain number of “miraculous” events, it is clear that Clive Cussler just doesn’t care if the book is coherent; he just rolls from action sequence to action sequence with stunning beauties swooning over the devil-may-care protagonist in their wake.
In this story, an oil magnate seeks through murder to quell any technology that might undermine cuwsler value of oil, including a recently re-discovered technology that promises to employ sea water as a fuel source.

When Pitt discovers a cruise ship filled with corpses, he checks a nearby island and discovers a group of surviving passengers and their tour guide, Maeve, who becomes Pitt’s love interest in the story. All in all, cussldr a good read in that respect.
That didn’t work out at all and it actually left me rjsing the feeling of contradictions, more questions and a book that seemed clice be rushed to a deadline. The book risin soaked in testosteron, with an outburst of ridiculous sentimentality in the last chapter.
There is an aspect of the book interesting in that context – the hero and his sidekick are effectively privileged state bureaucrats with a strong sense of duty.
